This December’s creative challenge is to build a gift-bearing sleigh from a favorite LEGO theme. Lately, the twins have been watching the Harry Potter films, and we came up with the great idea to build a sleigh for Harry and his friends.

We were fortunate to have the transparent light blue stag from the Expecto Patronum set, which easily satisfied the contest rule requiring a “power source” for the sleigh. In our scene, the Patronus is taking the wizards through a snowscape with lots of cool details. They pass a pond covered with frozen crystals, snowmen, snow-covered foliage, and several winter animals (Bruni makes a guest appearance again!).

The sled itself was modified from the Weasleys’ Ford Anglia. Among the changes we made were replacing the wheels with skis and attaching magical transparent purple reins to the jalopy’s body. For more passenger space, we added a roller coaster track on the roof to give Neville and Hermione something to hold on to while they ride topside.

The most challenging mod was extending the rear of the Ford to make way for a flatbed to carry all the presents. In the end, we found that a bright light blue door frame was just the right size to fit in all sorts of treats from the Potter universe – Bertie Bott’s jelly beans, acid pops, butter beer, a remembrall, and even a Quidditch broomstick and snitch!

One striking aspect of this build we particularly liked was its eye-catching color palette. The Anglia’s bright light blue was shared by the frozen blossoms (plus Bruni) and was a great complement to the snowy white landscape.

This is the last Meet and Brick event for 2024, and the next one will be a much larger convention with more collectible and toy enthusiasts. We’re excited for it and look forward to another great year of building in 2025!
