This December’s creative challenge is to build a gift-bearing sleigh from a favorite LEGO theme. Lately, the twins have been watching the Harry Potter films, and we came up with the great idea to build a sleigh for Harry and his friends.

We were fortunate to have the transparent light blue stag from the Expecto Patronum set, which easily satisfied the contest rule requiring a “power source” for the sleigh.

The sled itself was modified from the Weasley’s Ford Anglia. Among the chamges we made were replacing the wheels with skis and attaching magical transparent purple reins to the jalopy’s body. The most challenging mod was extending the rear of the Ford to make way for a flatbed to carry all the presents.

In the end, we found that a bright light blue door frame was just the right size to fit in all sorts of treats from the Potter universe – Bertie Bott’s jelly beans, acid pops, butter beer, and even a Quidditch broomstick and snitch!
