This Halloween-themed MOC features Sora tossing and turning in her bed as she has a terrifying nightmare. Her room breaks up and collapses into a frightening dark forest that is guarded by an enormous spider.

We built Sora’s bed with ideas from a design by u/RegularPangolin117, using a satin transparent purple fractured wedge piece for added color and texture. On the floor beside her bed is a book of Spooky Tales that may have triggered her bad dream. Her face is pale and she sleeps restlessly as glowing red energy claws reach from behind her bed to drag her into the nightmare world. We were very pleased with the final look of her room as the color pallete of bright light blue, lavender, and dark blue worked so well. Her bedside table, toy chest, and display shelf are packed with details, including a phone, several toys, a lamp, and a pen. We even later added a loyal pet cat crouching on an ottoman seemingly hissing at the cursed book on the floor.

Her furniture balance precariously on several fractured islands as reality and her room break up into fragments. One section of her wall is skewed as the floor supporting it drops, causing her chest and note board to teeter at different angles. It seems to be a novel and legitimate building technique, where two hinged planes at different heights are aligned via turntables.

In her nightmare, Sora is running past a dense, dark forest teeming with creepy wildlife. At the center of this forest is a spindly tree with dark leaves and white highlights. Its height and sparse foliage worked well in making the overall composition interesting and dynamic. The greatest terror here is an enormous brick-built spider we modeled after Shelob. We added extra fearsome details like big red eyes (from minifigure maracas), large angled pincers, and several spikes jutting through its body. Matti had the great idea of wrapping its legs around the dark tree for support. This way we had much freedom to position the spider to make it more menacing and appear ready to pounce on poor Sora!
